About B-Safe®
Developed by Prof. Dominic Cooper, a Chartered Psychologist and Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH), B-Safe® grew out of British Health & Safety Executive (OSHA equivalent) funded
research in the UK construction industry.
Completing his Ph.D, Dominic was approached by many UK businesses to implement behavioral safety. Initially, this was conducted as further research which proved extremely effective. In one manufacturing facility, lost-time incidents reduced by 82% and minor injuries by 55% in the first year, saving approximately $720,000 in direct lost time accident costs. This overall rate of improvement continued over the next four years without any external help.
In two Courtaulds Chemicals plants with simultaneous implementations, plant one achieved a zero lost time accident rate, the first time this had occurred in the previous fifteen years of the plants history. Plant two had already achieved a zero lost time accident rate prior to starting B-Safe®, but we still managed to reduce their minor injury rate by 57% in the first year and to zero in the second.
B-Safe®, therefore, has been further refined via primary scientific research, which has continued ever since. For example, studies have been conducted examining the impact of managerial leadership behavior on employee safety behavior, and applying B-Safe® to reducing Hospital Aquired Infections such as MRSA. Although in both cases dramatic results were achieved, the purpose was to extend Behavior-Based Safety research and to ensure B-Safe® is always at the cutting edge. Our clients benefit by achieving world-class safety performance status.
