About Dr Dominic Cooper
An award winning author, Dominic is a Chartered Psychologist, Associate
Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS),
Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH), a Member
of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and a Member
of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) .
An Advanced Scaffolder by trade, Dominic pioneered the use of behavioural safety from 1989 - 1992 in the UK construction industry on behalf of the British Health & Safety Executive (HSE) while studying for his Ph.D. at the School of Management at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST). He then founded ‘B-Safe
®’ an international behavioral safety consultancy operating in the Americas, Asia, Africa, Australasia, Europe and the Middle East.Dominic has published books, articles and conference or journal papers on the topics of personnel selection, motivation, quality, risk, safety culture and behavioral safety and spoken on these at many major international conferences. In 1995 he was the recipient of an award from IOSH in the UK for his writings on behavioral safety, and again in 1997 when he developed the award-winning ‘B-Safe Programme‚’ to enable others to implement a behavioral safety initiative for themselves. In 1998 he published Improving Safety Culture: a Practical Guide.
Not content to sit on his laurels, he then established www.behavioural-safety.com, the world's first free interactive web site devoted to behavioural safety, and the worlds first Internet based ‘behavioural safety tracking service’ .
In 2001 Dominic relocated to the USA when he was appointed a full-time Associate Professor of Safety Education and Visiting Professor of Psychology at Indiana University, Bloomington, USA. He now resides in Franklin, Indiana and runs BSMS Inc on a full-time basis
